The character sprites are exact to the NES originals, while the backgrounds look more like modern pixelated quality indie game backgrounds. This is a game for people who know who Abobo is. This game is for players who love the idea of 2 player co-op mode, and a 2 player co-op mode where they can accidentally (or intentionally) beat each other up. This is for people who love the old NES Double Dragon games, and would love to sit on the couch with a friend for an hour and try and beat a simple, but difficult game. If that doesn’t sound appealing to you, this game is not for you. This game has simple mechanics: jump, punch, kick. “But like Capcom did with Mega Man 9 and 10, Double Dragon IV looks and plays like an NES Double Dragon.” Also their “partner” Marian is punched in the stomach and kidnapped. In the meantime they’re spread their martial arts teaching around the world, only to be attacked by a group called The Renegades who have allied themselves with what remains of The Black Warriors. The story takes place after series heroes Billy and Jimmy Lee take down The Black Warriors in Double Dragon II. If you’ve ever played those older Double Dragon games, then you’ll be happy that Double Dragon IV takes more cues from Double Dragon II than III. So why is this game called Double Dragon IV? Nobody knows! But if you ever wished that there was a secret sequel to Double Dragon II, made in 1989, that was just unearthed today, then your dreams have come true!

It seriously isn’t made to be as good as the arcade games the NES Double Dragon’s were ported from, and it ignores both Double Dragon III and IV’s existence.

But like Capcom did with Mega Man 9 and 10, Double Dragon IV looks and plays like an NES Double Dragon. Well this Double Dragon IV is made by Arc System Works, who bought all Double Dragon rights in 2015 (three years after Double Dragon Neon came out), so it is nothing like Double Dragon Neon. Thought 1: There already is a Double Dragon IV! It’s called Super Double Dragon IV and it was for the Super Nintendo and it was awesome! Thought 2: I hope it’s made by the same people as Double Dragon Neon, because that was one of my favorite PS3 games. A few thoughts went through my head, when I first heard there was a game coming out called “Double Dragon IV”.
